When To Post on Social Media - Social Media 101 Series Part 4

You could have the best social media content in the world, but it would never do your followers (or your brand) any good if no one ever saw it. Your marketing efforts live or die based on the number of people who see your content, interact with it, and ideally go on to become customers because of it. Therefore maximizing your exposure is the name of the game, and one of the biggest elements of this is timing.

Recency is one of the biggest factors that social media algorithms consider when they are building newsfeeds for your followers. The newer and fresher the content, the more likely the algorithm is to show your content. To capitalize on this, you should aim to post to your page when you think your followers will be online. Now, this will likely vary widely across the spectrum of people you have in your following, but it is still a useful benchmark to have when timing your posts.

Do you have a lot of followers who work a 9-5? Then it is likely that they would be on social media either before work, on their lunch break, or after they get off and put their feet up for the day. Use this knowledge of your average

follower to post around 8:30am, 12pm, or 5pm. These are all times when people are likely to be checking in online to see what is going on in the world.

The most important part of developing your social media posting schedule is to not be afraid to adapt it. If you notice that your morning posts are getting more engagement than ones that you post in the evening, prioritize your best content for the morning! Respond to the feedback you get from your followers and customize your schedule to your business. There isn’t one universal “perfect time to post”, but there is one that would be most effective for your brand.
